When cartographers and surveyors first located a pristine, six-acre lake on Bear Point in the 19th Century, they named it "Lake Baldwin." Since then, little has changed on this private, 50-acre estate hidden in the heart of Orange Beach. The Lake Baldwin House sits on the southeast shore of the lake, and is the only home on the land, which is the largest parcel of waterfront property in East Orange Beach. The privacy and natural beauty of this estate, which has been owned by the same family since 1945, will leave you slack-jawed.
The existing house, which was built in 2016 as the Owners' residence, is a 5-bedroom, 3.5 bath coastal cottage designed for comfortable living and entertaining. The house has two separate master bedrooms. The upstairs master has a king bed, en suite bath, and a private balcony overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway. The downstairs master has a queen bed and en suite bath. There are two additional bedrooms upstairs with an adjoining full bath, as well as a downstairs bunk room. The living room and kitchen are open, and enjoy expansive views of the lake, Bay La Launch, and the woods surrounding the house. The home was constructed with shiplap walls throughout, and cooks will appreciate the 48" Wolf range and 8' kitchen island. The house has a walk-in, teak-walled wine room, and a beautiful screened porch with an outdoor grilling and dining area. The porch overlooks Lake Baldwin, and the bay beyond that. The owners are refurnishing the house, and additional interior photographs will be available in mid-January, 2020.
The accompanying acreage is the most remarkable thing about the Lake Baldwin House, and what sets it apart from any other place in Orange Beach. Frequent visitors to the lake include owls, ospreys, herons and egrets, an array of ducks in the wintertime, and even the occasional bald eagle. The lake is home to largemouth bass, bream, and chain pickerel. Sunsets over the lake are stunning, and while you can fish from the lake pier, feel free to bring your own boat to explore the lake, or use the 10' aluminum rowboat on site.
Of the 50 acres you have to explore, about 30 are situated on the south side of the lake. In those woods live foxes, white-tailed deer, and a variety of trees and native vegetation, from large pines to scrub oaks and bay trees. Much of the underbrush on the south side of the lake has been cleared, which makes it easy to explore beneath a canopy of native trees covering approximately 25 acres. On the north side of the lake, the property has a private shoreline stretching for approximately half a mile along Bay La Launch. The owners are in the process of building a pier on the bay, and until it is completed, guests will enjoy the use of a private boat slip at The Sportsman Marina, which is less than a mile from the property and provides convenient access to Perdido Pass and Terry Cove.
Orange Beach has grown tremendously since Lake Baldwin was first surveyed, but time has affected this place very little. The Lake Baldwin House offers a glimpse into the past, and if you do come visit, we are sure you will fall in love, just like we have. Available from February 15, 2020.
